Fineline Technologies and Digi-Trax Introduces CrossTraxTM DT, Labeling Solution for Blood Crossmatching During Downtime Events
Suwanee, Ga – September 2026 — Digi-Trax, a division of FineLine Technologies, has introduced CrossTraxTM DT for hospital blood banks. This tagging and labeling system provides a structured way to help maintain crossmatching workflow during system downtime events. These might include cyber-attacks, network outages and scheduled maintenance.
“Many of our customers want blood labeling and identification solutions to integrate seamlessly with their enterprise IT systems, plus operate in stand-alone mode. This requirement has become more urgent due to a rise in cybersecurity breaches and other system disruptions,” said Digi-Trax President Jeff Kriozere.
A blood crossmatch is the final laboratory verification before a blood unit is released for transfusion. Without an automated means to print and scan a 2D blood bag barcode or tag, hospital blood bank and laboratory personnel would need to hand write the essential information. This creates risks for human error and crossmatching delays, both of which can have serious consequences. Incompatible transfusions can cause severe reactions and outcomes. Errors often trace back to patient/specimen misidentification and workflow breakdowns. These problems are more likely to occur when IT systems are down.
CrossTrax DT software guides end users through each step of the crossmatching process. This includes validation of a compatible match between the patient and donor’s blood type and Rh factor. They also must verify additional blood unit product information, such as the volume and expiration date. Then the software generates the transfusion tag and transmits it to the printer.
CrossTrax DT supports a hospital blood bank’s need for standardized downtime workflow with traceability, audit accountability and compliance with the International Standard for Blood and Transplant (ISBT-128). The software is designed to print a unique 4-inch by 6-inch transfusion tag specifically for downtime use. The upper portion of the tag, which is applied to the blood bag, contains the crossmatch and transfusion information. The lower portion is a copy for clinical staff to include in time-of-transfusion documentation. Both portions contain a 2D barcode to support downstream scanning workflow.
CrossTrax DT is the latest Digi-Trax labeling system to offer customers an option for stand-alone use. The HemaTrax and HemaTrax CT blood and cellular therapy labeling solutions are also available with downtime functionality.
