SMARTRAC N.V., the leading developer, manufacturer, and supplier of RFID transponders and inlays, has teamed up with US-based application provider ClikGenie and partner FineLine Technologies to launch CLIKSecure™, a mobile application for NFC-enabled product authentication. The app is the first to have dual functionality for in-store product merchandising and product authentication. The CLIKSecure™ app will be demonstrated for wine authentication at the Global Secure Summit in Istanbul, Turkey, on October 2–4.
The app has been developed to work with a variety of different ICs and near field communication (NFC) inlays. The inlays can be attached directly to the product or made as a separate label designed according to the brand owner’s graphics. As the leading supplier of RFID inlays, SMARTRAC offers an extensive range of RFID products in various formats and frequencies for use in limitless RFID applications.
Consumers may tap the inlay using any NFC-enabled phone to receive information the brand owner wants to share, such as details on the vineyard, wine ratings, food pairings, and tasting notes. When the same inlay is tapped using a phone with the CLIKSecure™ app, the product’s authenticity can be confirmed immediately. In addition to registering the UID of the chip itself, the unique phone serial number (SRN) will be registered for very high security. This ensures that only brand inspectors and other authorized users of the app can access detailed product information and easily and discretely identify fake products throughout the supply chain.
ClikGenie also provides the retailer with the ability to create a new source of revenue by enabling adverts from the national brands available within the store on the go. ClikGenie also offers a similar product merchandising solution for apparel which is to be operated by QR or NFC.
The solution employs the latest NXP NTAG and ICODE chip technologies and integrates directly with ClikGenie’s mobile services platform, providing brands with the ability to have product authentication solutions customized to their specific needs and to further differentiate their brands.
FineLine Technologies is a licensed provider of ClikGenie’s NFC and QR technology, being the first company in the US to offer custom-encoded NFC chips via its FastTrak online ordering system, which currently supports over 10,000 vendors worldwide.
The app works on NFC-enabled smartphones equipped with Android Gingerbread (V2.3.3) or later versions. The CLIKSecure™ app will be presented at NXP’s stand at the Global Secure Summit.
